Cold Laser

At the Northern Foot Clinic we use Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) sometimes referred to as Cold laser. The invisible wavelength penetrates deeply into the tissue (unlike visible red wavelengths).

At the tissue level the laser causes various photochemical reactions; The light energy (via photons) is converted to chemical energy in the mitochondria of the tissue cells, which assists the healing at cellular level.

Therefore laser can assist with:

  • Wound healing and tissue repair
  • Swelling and Lymphoedema
  • Sprains and Strains
  • Muscle spasm
  • Deactivation of trigger points
  • Reduce musculoskeletal and nerve pain
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Acupuncture

Is it safe?

This unit does not generate heat in the tissue and is a Class 1 laser making it safe to use in all conditions. It can be used over implants, including pacemakers, breast implants and orthopaedic implants. The laser is safe to use in pregnancy and for children. Laser has an insignificant effect on healthy tissue

The laser is painless and it is likely you will only feel the pressure of the unit in contact with the skin.
